Bolton and Bury Sling Library is a volunteer run service managed by Kate Nisbet and Amy Stone. We aim to provide families and caregivers with expert sling advice to find the best sling or carrier for them and their child. Whether that is through providing advice or information, helping out with carriers already owned or providing, through our library lending service, carriers to try before committing to buy.

There is no one sling or carrier which is best for everyone and what is best for you depends on a lot of factors; size, shape, medical complaints, situation. We have a wide range of carriers, which you can look at in our library section, any of which you can come and try and hire to see if they suit your needs.

Hiring from the library is easy. As long as we have it in stock you can hire it! It costs £2.50 a week to hire and you can hire for as long as you like. If you become a member there is no deposit to pay, otherwise there is a £50 deposit, which will be returned at the end of your hire, payable either by paypal or cash.

I am mother to two wonderful babies, George and Florence. I came to babywearing in 2012 whilst pregnant with George. My husband and I decided it was something we would like to try. My sister had had a baby 6 months before and she had used a stretchy wrap so we tried it and it just seemed so right. We got one and we haven’t looked back since! George suffered badly from colic and we struggled very badly with feeding for a few months and wearing him was the only thing that got us through the long long days. Through babywearing we also made some truly incredible friends.

In 2013 I did my School of Babywearing Peer Support Course and with West Pennine Slings help we reopened the Bolton Sling Library. In April 2015 I did the Trageschule Consultancy Course, Foundation Level and since then have been able to provide one to one consultations. The consultancy course really expanded my horizons and made me realise how important it is, and how much I love, matching the person with the carrier. Nothing compares to the feeling of being out and about and running into someone that I have helped, happily, confidently, carrying their baby. In March 2016, I completed my Slingababy consultant training course and currently am working for Firespiral Slings.

I am mum to two little girls, Bridget and Sophie with another baby due next spring. I bought a ring sling when I was pregnant with my eldest but I struggled to get one with it. I tried more types of carriers and became a big fan of soft structured buckle carriers. With a 19 month age gap between my two girls, slings became invaluable. With the help of my local sling library I started trying out other carriers such as ring slings and wraps which I am now a big fan of.
I moved to Bolton last November and began volunteering at West Pennine Slings. I have completed my peer support training with Trageschule and Born to Carry. I work for a local wrap company, Firespiral Slings which has really expanded my knowledge of woven wraps.
